NHTSA reopens probe into Ford lighting failures
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA (Bloomberg) -- The Nhtsa said it'll re-open a study where it formerly determined to not recall over half a million Ford Motor Co. autos with potentially faulty light controls.
The Transportation Division stated in a notice posted on its web site the Office of Defects Investigation acquired a request in the North Carolina Consumers Council Inc. requesting a study of headlamp and outside light failures on 200305 Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis sedans.
The lights malfunction can be said to happen while the vehicles are in-motion.
The automobiles had formerly been inquired from November 2008 to March 2009, when the section reasoned "a security- related flaw is not identified as of this time and additional use of agency resources doesn't seem to be justified."
The newest investigation was started April 1 and handles 517,945 automobiles.
The light events have prompted 604 buyer grievances through April 1, including seven reviews of car crashes connecting to the failure of the leading lighting control module, in accordance with the customers council.
Ford had formerly extended guarantee protection for light management failures. Ford spokeswoman Kelli Felker was not immediately available to remark.
