MUMBAI (Bloomberg) -- Nissan Motor Co. today unveiled the Go fivedoor hatchback, the very first version under the revived Datsun brand.
Today Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn unveiled the Go with an event in New Delhi. He didn't reveal the auto's pricing but said it will be under 400,000 rupees
($6,700).
Nissan targets to have ten percent of market-share in India by 2016, Ghosn said.
Emerging markets
In developing economies for example Russia, India and Indonesia, Nissan does not provide passenger automobiles in the bottom price ranges, which account for about 40% of the market, Ghosn has said.
Datsun will target firsttime buyers upgrading from bikes or used cars, enabling the automaker to achieve a brand new market segment, Ghosn said in March
2012. Ghosn will need to conquer an original dearth of brand recognition for the Datsun among consumers in emerging markets, where in fact the automaker is driving to get more sales from buyers.
Restoring the Datsun name, even when it is unknown to consumers in emerging markets, beats starting a brand new brand, he said.
Nissan said the Go has relatively streamlined body measurements at 3785mm long) but and 1635mm wide, 1485mm tall is huge inside thanks to a wide 2450mm wheelbase. its stance and.
The Go is similar in dimensions to the Micra but lower and shares its platform with the Indiabuilt Nissan Micra / March.
The hatchback will be assembled at the plant in Chennai, India.
After Nissan chose to badge future products under its namesake brand Datsun was mothballed in 1981.
